Master of Environmental Science, Miami University, 2005, Environmental Sciences
The purpose of this report is to describe the activities of my internship with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water Floodplain Management Program (FMP) from November 2004 through April 2005. As an Environmental Specialist I worked with local communities throughout the state to provide technical assistance in implementing an effective, local floodplain management program. Additionally, I developed processes and checklists that are used to assess mapping needs throughout the state and review preliminary flood maps before local communities can use them for their floodplain management. Through all of this I have developed an increased sense of professionalism, while incorporating many of the traits I built in the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES). IES and the Zoology Department prepared me in many ways for this professional career, including building my communication skills and problem solving abilities, and instilling a team work ethic necessary for collaborative projects.
