  • 1. Al-Shouiliy, Khaldoon The Impact of Real Big Data on our Future and Risk Identification

PhD, University of Cincinnati, 2020, Engineering and Applied Science: Computer Science and Engineering

In recent days, revolution of the internet and the telecommunication with new smart devices have made big data booming fame. Tons of data are stored for each one of us in different servers like Facebook, Tweeter, and other apps. However, if collecting data looks as an easy task, then classifying and processing big data is a difficult challenge that ought to be addressed among many issues. Taxonomy is a mechanism of data labels that can perform economic and effective analysis of associated values. In term of processing and classifying big data, most of the large companies are busy trying to find out the best and easy way to do that. While they succeeded in some respects they are still struggling on other sides. Moreover, some of those technology companies like Microsoft produce Azure cloud service that can help in term of big data (storage, process, and develop). Amazon also have their own too. In this work we used Azure cloud. This work is to focus on this important field where big data is used for health care in order to diagnose diseases before they occur. One of the major academic work on health data (Breast cancer) could be divided into two big objectives like statistic work and analytical work, with an emphasis on predictive analytics as it is emerging as a transformative tool that can enable more proactive and preventative treatment option. Moreover, in this work, we create a new platform that works perfectly with big data to create our model and then the sub-aim is to compare our results with other researchers. Later on, in this research we focus on pandemic of COVID-19 wand we used a dataset from internet to read it and analysis to understand and predict whether the patient going to release, isolate or decease. The second aim of this research is to focus on the economy datasets. Loans have been continuously growing up to trillions of dollars in the US, which makes it difficult for the lenders to study every case individually. • 2. Vaughn, Erin Harmonic Resources in 1980s Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Music

MA, Kent State University, 2015, College of the Arts / School of Music, Hugh A. Glauser

VAUGHN, ERIN, M.A., DECEMBER, 2015 MUSIC HARMONIC RESOURCES IN 1980S HARD ROCK AND HEAVY METAL MUSIC (74PP.) Director of Thesis: Richard O. Devore The first objective of this work was to review the existing literature relating to popular music analysis to determine if standards of harmonic practice within hard rock and heavy metal music have been considered and established. This led to the review of the analytical methods of Guy Capuzzo, Christopher Doll, Walter Everett, Allen Moore, and Ken Stephenson. For the needs of this study, Everett's work (and to a lesser degree, Stephenson's work) is primary as it best summarizes the harmonic schemes used in the pieces analyzed. Three songs were selected within different subgenres of hard rock and heavy metal: thrash metal (Metallica, “Master of Puppets”), neo-classical metal (Yngwie Malmsteen, “Far Beyond the Sun”), and commercial hard rock (Guns-N-Roses, “Welcome to the Jungle”). These pieces were analyzed extensively to understand the primary harmonic resources that are at work in each. Additionally, the three pieces were compared with regard to their formal elements, melodic materials, texture, and dynamics to draw conclusions about what similarities they share and also how they differ. Depending on the piece and the section under consideration, these three examples exhibited a reliance on modal structures, blues-based materials, and common-practice influences.

  • 3. Swanger, Misty Using a Computerized Program to Improve Working Memory in Intermediate School Students

Doctor of Education, Ashland University, 2013, College of Education

Working memory provides the important function of remembering and being able to process information. A child with low working memory may demonstrate deficits in academic achievement. A pragmatic interpretivist research approach asked if working memory and general intelligence could be improved for students. The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to determine whether the computerized program Jungle Memory® could improve working memory for intermediate grade students. The study followed the Baddeley and Hitch theoretical framework of working memory. Data were collected from pre and post assessments in working memory and general ability. Verbal working memory and general ability did not increase after the intervention using the Jungle Memory® brain training program. Visuo-spatial working memory did increase with a medium effect size (d=.51). Pretests showed verbal working memory had a positive correlation with general ability (r=.455, p<.01). Posttests showed visuo-spatial working memory positively correlated with general ability (r=.624, p<.01). Verbal working memory and visuo-spatial working memory did not correlate, substantiating the Baddeley and Hitch framework of working memory mediated by the phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketchpad. The study did not substantiate an improvement in working memory for students with deficits in working memory ability.

  • 4. Davis, Molly Jungle Redux: Meat Industry Reform in the Progressive Era and Contemporary Applications

Artium Baccalaureus (AB), Ohio University, 2010, History

This project explores the conditions leading up to the passage of the Meat Inspection Act of 1906 and evaluates its impact today. The problems and solutions of Sinclair's day are directly linked to problems in the meat industry today. This thesis addresses three questions: What led to the reforms of the meat industry in 1906? What were the immediate and lasting effects of those reforms? Despite reform, why does today's meat supply pose a health risk to consumers?

  • 5. Ostrowski, Amelia Through a Selective Lens: Darwinian Analysis of Class Struggles in Gilded Age Literature

Master of Arts, University of Akron, 2011, English-Literature

While Darwin's theory of evolution has been widely accepted in most disciplines, an evolutionary approach to literary criticism has remained absent from mainstream critical theory. The aim of this thesis was to strengthen the connection between science and the humanities by applying concepts from natural selection to literary works. William Dean Howells's A Hazard of New Fortunes, Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth, Upton Sinclair's The Jungle, and Theodore Dreiser's Sister Carrie were all examined through the lens of natural selection. In each novel, class struggles and the challenge involved with climbing the social ladder were addressed in context with the social environment of the Gilded Age. The definition of survival differed between characters as their environment and socio-economic status changed. Those individuals who were able to adapt to their changed environment were able to survive, while those who failed to adapt were incapable of meeting their perceived standards for survival.
