The current study addresses an important and timely issue for Catholic young adults. The attitudes and beliefs of Catholic students regarding their reported trust in the Church, Priests and God were examined, specifically considering the effects of gender and religious practice. Seventy-two students, 43 men, 29 women, participated in the study. Thirty-eight of those taking part in the study are considered to be regularly-practicing Catholics, as they identified themselves as attending Mass once per month or more. Thirty-four reported Mass attendance as several times per year or less and were labeled "non-practicing". Statistical analysis, using a MANOVA, demonstrated a significant effect for the practice of Catholicism. No significant effect was found for gender or the interaction between gender and practice. Individual ANOVAs demonstrate a significant effect for practice on three of the seven factors, commitment to Church leadership, idealization of priests, and trust in God. Overall means found positive attitudes by participants toward six of the seven factors considered by the study. The results are discussed in terms of how the information obtained relates to previous research and the applicability to the young adults in the Catholic Church.
