The abortion stigma has long been a problem in the United States, and it is actively spread through several media forms. One particular, and consistent, medium like cartoon art can share a wide variety of depictions of abortion. “It Goes Deeper than That” is an exhibit representing the perceptions, debates, and stigmas revolving around abortion, and will take the audience through a narrative beginning with a “simplified” debate, providers, pro-life violence, abortion politics, sexualization, and descriptive stories from the under-represented receiving side. While abortion and its politics can be controversial today, this exhibit stands as its own medium where the stigma is used against itself to characterize the crucial need for abortions and reproductive autonomy. Throughout, we will discuss how the importance of imagination, negativity, perspective, and choices come together to tell the narrative of how abortion, put simply, goes deeper than that of its widely known misconceptions.
