Abstract
For the past few years there have been an increasing demand for data storage capacity. It is expected that in the near future optical page oriented memory will replace the traditional electronic memory. When this happens, problems will arise due to the mismatch in bandwidth between the I/O of the optical page oriented memory and the datapath of the electronic computer. To compensate for this mismatch of bandwidths, we have proposed an optoelectronic database filter chip based on CMOS VLSI technology, which can interface between the electronic host computer and a page oriented optical memory. The optoelectronic database filter reads data from a page oriented optical memory and filters the data to send only the data that is required by the electronic computer. A simulation software is developed to do theoretical analysis and performance evaluation of the architecture of the optoelectronic database filter.
