Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore whether microcredit companies can provide competitive service to village level rural households. In order to explain why the paper specifically researches microcredit companies, it will first introduce the microcredit’s current situations and historical development in China. Afterwards, the focus of the research is the design of a survey based on a single microfinance company’s loan products and requirements, thereby understanding whether the microfinance company’s loan terms can attract rural households. Several researchers have already done rural microfinance demand surveys, but the vast majority were done before the existence of microfinance companies. As a result, their main goal is to understand the rural demand for loans. These surveys do not completely explain whether rural households can attract profit-seeking microfinance companies. By analyzing other surveyors’ research and conducting an additional rural demand survey, this paper hopes to explore the opportunities and obstacles of microfinance companies developing in the countryside.
