Abstract
This report summarizes my activities as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education fellow through an interagency agreement between the United States (U.S) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). During my fellowship, I was the editor of the newsletter, expanded and enhanced outreach materials, and assisted with data collection. I assisted with implementation of the second Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Regulation (UCMR 2) and the regulatory development process for the third Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Regulation (UCMR 3). Every five years there is a new list of contaminants for this national drinking water occurrence study that collects data on contaminants that do not currently have health-based standards set under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The occurrence data collected under UCMR, along with health effects data, and cost/benefit analysis supports EPA’s decisions to regulate drinking water contaminants in the future.
